Google closes its service to shorten links goo.gl
|Google closes its service to shorten links goo.gl|
In the past few years, there has been a great wave of link shortening services, so Google launched its own service in 2009 and has now decided to close it for replacement with another solution that offers more possibilities than just supporting web pages.
Starting April 13, Google will replace the goo.gl link service with the Firebase Dynamic Links service so that links can be created that lead not only to Web pages - as the previous service does - but even to certain pages and places within the Android or iOS smartphone applications.
As of that date, users will not be able to create new short links, but they will be able to manage previous links on the same site until next year as the abbreviated links will be deactivated on March 30, 2019.
If you are looking for an alternative to Google service we recommend either bit.ly service or ow.ly service.
